Next to the staircase there must be a solidly built and plastered wall (I assume 17.5 or 24 cm), as the treads are attached directly to the wall without risers and without stringers.
We are not that far along in the details yet. In any case, it is rather an unfavorable option for spot drilling (expensive). A groove should certainly only be as deep as the plaster to avoid perforating the hollow bricks.
I'm curious to see how it looks finished at your place! So far I think it's great, that's exactly what I imagine.
