Hello,

I am faced with the decision of approximately 10 sockets or 4 + power strip(s) in the living room and probably twice "I would like to be able to use the two walls in the living room as TV walls for a possible future room redesign."
With 20 sockets just for media purposes, that's a considerable extra cost compared to 8.
The power strips could be accommodated in the TV stand.

Thank you!

Same here, I also want to prepare 2 walls as TV walls.

Although I plan to install the electrical system myself and will get the materials as equity, I will "only" install 4 sockets each and then connect power strips to them. Hidden in or behind the cabinet, they don’t bother. It also has advantages: Even without KNX, the power can be controlled with little effort. 1 x constant power, possibly on a wireless socket, 1 x master-slave, 2 x reserve, since currently 2 are too few for me [emoji6] I think 3 sockets each should also be enough.

I find the decision about LAN more difficult. I would currently need 5 ports per wall: TV, AVR, Sat receiver, game console, Raspberry Pi as multimedia player. Who knows, maybe more in the future. So, the thing is, a proper LAN is actually distributed in a star shape, which would mean I would need 10 or better 12 LAN cables for the 2 TV walls. Apart from the costs, I’m not even sure if there is enough space for all the cables. So I’m considering laying only 2 per wall and distributing to the devices via switch. That should be completely sufficient for home use, right? What do you think? I probably won’t need to rewire individual ports on the patch panel at home [emoji6] And I don’t see any performance loss if not all 5 devices are firing at full load simultaneously.
Have you had such thoughts as well?

Several devices that draw a lot of power speak against using a power strip. This is not necessarily the case with multimedia devices. I have combined both and only planned 6 fixed sockets. In the guest room and bedroom, I even have the TV and receiver on a switched power strip because I can completely cut off their power. and I thought I was obsessed with technology...[emoji16]

I feel the same way about the LAN cables and will install the 2x LAN exactly like you: 1 LAN for my PVR/SAT/NAS and one LAN with a switch for streaming and so on. That should be enough, I hope. When it comes to power outlets, I am 70% in favor of power strips. Nice to have a fellow sufferer here ;-)

Just googled about the topic. How do you do it in the upstairs floor? Apparently, opinions tend to be quite clear that you shouldn’t just run one Cat7 cable up and distribute via switch, but really have a cable for each connection. That probably makes sense in case the use case changes. Since we both still plan 4 cables in the living room, that should be enough to stay flexible. So here’s how I do it: switch on the TV wall. 2 cables per room upstairs and 2 more into the attic. The only problem is, in the kids' rooms you never know where LAN might be needed [emoji1] But you can’t have everything.

I think one should not start their house with shortcomings right away. From my point of view, one of the most important builder convictions of all is: "never again multiple sockets!"
