Unfortunately, you can hardly find anything about the VDM10 on YouTube that does not come directly from the manufacturer. I would also welcome any experiences!

I bought the system and it has been sitting here for weeks. But so far the normal doorbell is still doing its job, since internet + network have only been available in the house for two weeks and I haven't gotten around to installing the system yet :)

If I start it up soon, I will report back.

Can the Metzler VDM10 actually be operated without an indoor station? The notification/call on the iPhone would be sufficient for me.

No, it cannot, I asked the manufacturer. The forwarding to the mobile phone takes place from the indoor station and thus it is an essential part of the system. Additional cameras, if desired, should also be obtained from the manufacturer, as a private communication protocol is used between the devices. Third-party providers can hardly be integrated there. The switch should also preferably come from the manufacturer, because with a managed switch communication between the devices may be restricted or ports may not be enabled (unless you can program the switch accordingly yourself). There are pros and cons. Advantages definitely include the increased security in data exchange between the devices; a disadvantage is probably the lack of compatibility with third-party providers. The door station only creates a snapshot, but does not record a video of the visitor who is currently ringing. The manufacturer has put a stop to this due to data protection regulations. Providers from abroad seem to care less about this. The snapshots are only stored in the system and possibly on the mobile phone; storage on an FTP server or similar is not possible, and the SD card slot for storage is not activated in Germany.

If it's just about the pure notification on the iPhone, a Shelly Uni would be the right choice. Enter Shelly Uni on yout***, you will find a good video about the doorbell, Shelly and Alexa. 10€, it doesn't get cheaper.

A simple push notification is indeed a bit too little; I would like to be able to talk to the visitor at the door and ideally also see them. But that's enough for me from the phone. That's what I meant ;)
