Since I have no skeletons in the closet. Not even a basement, it's no problem for me. This data protection hysteria in Germany is more than exaggerated. I'll just say: "Corona app" or video surveillance of public places. Everyone uses Google every day, but complains about Alexa.

The decision whether to pay for a seemingly cheap product with full access to your data or to put a few more euros on the table and keep the data in-house is up to each individual. You either pay with money or with data. I prefer to have the photos of my visitors on my own server. Matter of taste.

When it comes to sensitive data, I agree with you. However, everyone uses Google and FB and/or Instagram.

Who does, but I don’t want my children to be watched and listened to by microphones and cameras in our home. I don’t want to be eavesdropped on regarding financial or legal matters. No one has any business in my bedroom, even if Amazon employees especially like to tune in there. I want to have control over my data. Behind Alexa there are not just anonymous computers but people with concrete intentions. My home is my castle!

That is typically German. You can see it however you want :) You probably don't even know through which sources you could theoretically be spied on. Laptop/tablet/phone/car. Personally, I'm not so schizophrenic about it. Of course, when it comes to passwords/banking data, no question.

But in the end, you're right. To each their own.

Believe me, I know that very well. I am not in the least schizophrenic, nor naive, but realistic. Control over data means power, and power corrupts. It's as simple as that.
