If you want to use Amazon's cloud, the Ring system is a good product in terms of price-performance ratio. However, I do not like dependence on the cloud and especially not on any American companies.

Doorbird ALWAYS needs the cloud or an internet connection, without it the thing generally does not work.

Is that really so? There is the LAN-only mode after all? I haven't tried it and it works with an internet connection for me. But I thought I could operate it offline after setup.

and calls me on my phone within the home network (mobile does not have to work)

DoorBird ALWAYS needs the cloud or an internet connection; without it, the device generally doesn’t work. Other systems need the cloud or other online services only for mobile ringing. Within the home network, you can have most IP door intercoms call you simply via SIP.

In 2019, customer service told me something different; I haven’t tested it with our DoorBird yet:

An internet connection is not absolutely necessary. The basic functions can be used. However, without an active internet connection, for example, no push notifications are sent, and you do not receive firmware updates.

That’s roughly how I remembered it, but I haven't gotten around to testing it yet ...
