Hi.

Sliding door on load-bearing interior wall - How to clad it so that it becomes an internal sliding door.

CURRENT condition:
KS 17.5 solid wall with 1.80m wide x 2.14m rough opening from finished floor level.

TARGET condition:
2-leaf sliding door for the 1.80 wide door opening. The sliding door should be clad like a sliding door running inside the wall. The construction should add as little as possible to the wall. So there is no space for an additional 15cm.

There are ready-made solutions for drywall. These have the sliding door frame correspondingly on both sides so that it can be paneled or plastered there and are accordingly wide.

Ideas?
Thanks. Steffen

has already started writing. Use a ready-made version for solid walls. If it is not the right size, then use drywall – the principle is the same. Putty the joints with mesh to prevent hairline cracks. Oh yes, the structural engineer will still tell you what the requirements are and what kind of lintel / beam needs to be installed. After all, you are planning almost four meters of free span ==> I would guess a steel beam. Seems like you won the lottery ;)

Hello. Maybe that was written ambiguously. Nothing will be touched on the existing wall. It is calculated as is, and the lintel also fits the raw construction opening size of 1.80m. The only question left is what and from which side comes in front or behind it. I hope that from the raw construction 17.5 wall = approximately 20cm plastered, it will not be more than 30cm with sliding door in the plastered state.

So basically you need a sliding door running in front of the wall that still isn’t visible. That would probably only be achievable with a complete false wall. Then you naturally have to look at what suitable door frames are available. The one in the pictures is the variant that meant

Yes. Exactly. And my question is whether there are ready-made solutions that take up the least space and still look good.
