Left wall starting from this picture? The critical point will definitely be the orange dot.. a door will rather hover above the step there. Bedroom and study.. how often is it slept in and by whom? And should the door primarily be soundproof?

Maybe extend the floor upstairs so that a normal door can seal at the bottom? The steps will no longer be even, but it closes cleanly. A bit of drywall on the left and right so that an 86 frame can be installed.

Yes, the left wall from the picture's perspective. It will then be the master bedroom. The children have their rooms in the attic. There should be no noise disturbance except from the cats. For the first period, the newborn will also be in the room but will later move to the attic.

Sure, why not. You have to see how far the rail has to protrude at the top. You could make a hole in the wall at the top, then the sliding door would have to come right up to the wall.

In terms of sound insulation, it will work about as well as a fabric curtain.

The description says that the door can slide to the end of the rail. I think soundproofing is not that important.

Of course that’s possible. We have a sliding door (softclose) that finishes flush with the wall. The rail is open at the end faces. Take a picture when you get the chance. I think the manufacturer was I n o v a - model Liberty. I would have to check. But I would rather extend the step beforehand. I think I would be more bothered if there was a gap visible there when the door is closed.
