There are umbrellas for that, which I use less than ten times a year, despite a half kilometer distance between house and garage!

For example, yes.

I was thinking of shifting it just a touch to the east. Of course, I am assuming a revised plan after separating house and garage.

Hence my suggestion, more terrace on the west, ...

... and the garage is useful for the visual protection.

But then it really looks like a chamois feather in pink or overknees with a dirndl. Definitely Disneyland Bavarian.

It would also significantly shorten the driveway. Have you ever considered moving the house closer to the street and creating a north-facing garden? Possibly also with a terrace that is accessible from the kitchen? Currently, we have less shade in the north than initially thought and want to eventually make a terrace in the northeast because the evening sun stays there the longest – in the south, the western sun is shaded by the neighboring buildings!

Regarding the garage: as it is currently attached to the house, I wonder if there is still enough space for a proper landing in front of the front door or if you have to maneuver around it every time? Also, I think the second passage into the utility room costs you too much storage space. If you have such a configuration of house and garage, I would rather consider giving the garage a nice canopy that also covers the house entrance.

We will reconsider it like that...

At first, it wasn’t our favorite either. But now we think it’s good. There is still enough space to the street. The property is in a new development area with over 40 plots, and this is almost the only one where we have only two direct neighbors. For those with gardens away from the street, there are about 4-5 neighbors who constantly look into their gardens from their houses. Also, according to the development plan, trees have to be planted, and we were afraid that sooner or later the neighbors’ trees would block the sun for us.

We are sun worshippers... That was an important criterion for the property for us... Sooner or later there will be sun protection..

And before that you have no sun in the house????? I was already afraid that the morning sun would come too late to our kitchen and wanted to enlarge the windows.

The morning sun will presumably be blocked by your own garage. Larger windows don’t change anything if building structures cast shadows – and your neighbors alone will do that. As I said, there is no evening sun for us in the south because the neighboring house is in the way. I would have to pay close attention, but I think from 5 o’clock almost everything in the south is shaded.

But not on the main terrace now in summer. The north terrace (if we have it) gets sun until almost noon in summer, in the courtyard it is hardly bearable at the moment until about 6 p.m. with blazing sun, the west garden has sun in the morning and from noon onwards. In spring it looks different and the main terrace has more sun. Many neighbors you also have to like, it wouldn't be my thing. You have absolute peace at the back. The streets and sidewalks with 40 buildings are also quite lively. 11ants' suggestion is not bad.

In the street of my parents there is a new building, the orientation like at your place. Long driveway, house pushed all the way to the back, terrace after one year so severely enclosed (privacy screen) that it is a pity for the property.
