My criticism is simply that in the current calculation the child already present does not appear as a cost factor, but does as an income factor (Kindergeld). And at least one more is planned, if not more. So additional costs plus loss of earnings that cannot be offset by the Kindergeld. For the purchase price, a more detailed, forward-looking calculation should definitely be made.

Of course, everything always has to be considered individually and always depends on the attitudes/values the parents convey to the child.

I myself am not yet a parent, but I see different "parenting styles" in my close environment – but here you can also clearly see financial differences. "Normal" people – however, some parents repeatedly buy their 2-year-old child new nice Nike shoes, lots of toys nobody needs, etc. The other parents invest in the stock market during the first years and are satisfied with fewer toys for their children... Of course, this can also mean that one couple can pay off a loan of 500€ more/less. This should always be taken into account and applied individually to one’s own "method."

That’s why it’s always hard to say whether the loan is too high or too low. However, the original poster gave a cost breakdown. Ultimately, forcing the original poster to use a different cost breakdown just because maybe "statistically" or personally different amounts are spent on certain things is simply wrong.

Edit: What I want to say is that the original poster knows best how much money he currently needs, since one child is already born. I assume he’s smart enough to also add those costs for the second child and knows what a 16-year-old teenager, for example, costs. However, all that is also future talk, which in my opinion doesn’t always have to be fully considered. In 10-15 years, the wife will work again, then the financial questions one asks oneself are almost over anyway.

My personal opinion remains: I would not invest that much money in the original poster’s current life phase.

If both are possible, all the better. Only if I had to choose: to enable my children to grow up in our own house with a garden now, or to hold back now (well, I don't know what the OP's current living situation is) in order to finance their studies in the distant future, if they even want to study at all, I would always choose the now. No one knows what the future holds.

Apart from that, I think it's good that you question the costs. That's why the OP is here.

So, summary: Powdering the child's bottom costs money. Whether it's the 3€ powder or the 30€ powder, everyone has to decide for themselves. And letting the student child do it themselves eventually probably has never harmed the child :P

Ok, now I’ll have to cry myself to sleep tonight. But yes, children are expensive, we have two.

Regarding the topic: That would be way too much money for too little income for me. I wouldn’t even think about it. And I know everyone goes crazy in Munich, but 50 km from Munich is not Munich, it’s just 50 km away. It wouldn’t be worth it for me (and basically I don’t understand what justifies these prices in Munich anyway, and yes, I have family and friends there and have been there often and I just can’t understand it).

Of course, everyone has to decide for themselves. It just wasn't included in the calculation. And when the child was six months old, we still thought everything would be easy. :) "Main thing is the house" can also mean a lot of misery. And the property prices here in the south are so absurd, price jumps at pain thresholds of €100,000 are evaluated like €10,000 in other regions.
