We also pay down rather slowly and actually save the difference that we could have paid down and make a corresponding special repayment every year. But we are strict about it. I also find the amount gigantic. But I find many amounts gigantic, and when I look at my city between Münsterland, Ruhr area and Soester Börde and then see how the used property prices have changed, I just shake my head. Even here, such prices are sometimes asked for apartments. With special repayments, we also have a monthly burden of €2000 plus additional costs. We have about the same income, but are only two people. We manage well.

The fact is: 220sqm have to be paid for here, even though on the expensive pavement, whether justified or not, only 150sqm without a basement can be paid for with the initially good income. To the OP: set up a proper household budget, proactively also for the coming child years. For absolute bottlenecks AFTER a purchase, parents can be very helpful, but for now only the existing equity and the current salary count, whereby most people do not see this planning, wherever the house may be located (it would be helpful to be able to see how the market develops there), as something simple. Somehow still a bit too big of a deal.

And I dare to doubt that. Ok, we don’t know exactly in which town and at what BRW the plots are sold there. But I doubt that anywhere within a 50 km radius of Munich it is possible to build a 150 sqm house on 700 sqm (especially not with a basement) including ancillary construction costs, double garage, and outdoor facilities for significantly less than 950k€.

Why do you think? Because teachers earn enough to support their children. Why didn't you sue them for support if you had no claim to Bafög?

I didn’t sue my parents either, and my husband didn’t sue his, because we didn’t want to! I never had any entitlement to Bafög and only received minimal support; my husband was entitled to very minimal Bafög for only 2 of the 5 years and had no further support. Not every family is willing to pay just because the Bafög office believes the parents are rich enough. Instead, we went to work.
