We only have a small side panel and a total of 1.65m for the door + side panel. Door 1m side panel 65. Although I'm not sure because of the frame in between. I'll have to check that tonight. If I were to build again, I would have no problem at all extending the window completely over the stairs. Would ask the stair builder first what is possible.

+/- 1.6 m (size of the opening in the wall)

That must have been a very unreliable source.

I always have to smile when I read that. Which of you really gives both children an electric guitar or a drum set? - normal residential noise can be handled by other walls as well. The idea that you can put a biting wall in the way of sound is anyway a naive notion.

Construction companies prefer about 50/50 one of the two most common ways, either sand-lime brick or the same brick as for the exterior walls.

A front door is usually sized at 1.01 or 1.135 m width. Sidelights under half a meter seem too frugal to me. Overall, one usually ends up (with one sidelight) between 1.51 and 1.885 m.

I have two younger siblings in their teenage years and when I visit my parents and heartache songs by a boy band are blasting on repeat and at full volume throughout the house, you definitely start thinking more about soundproofing [emoji23]

Well, we have both. Isn't that normal?

I don't know. The walls we have now are really poorly soundproofed. Since it's just the two of us, it wasn't an issue. In my father's old building, the interior walls are all over 20 cm thick. The whole house is much quieter. The doors are all fairly cheap and new – it can't be because of that. So it must be the walls.

Aren't there headphones for that? [emoji33]
Or a different upbringing with a focus on consideration [emoji848]
