I expressed myself poorly. The travel time is only relevant to us in that it is the determining factor for the price per square meter here.


I’ll gladly pass that on to my in-laws when I get the chance. :p Personally, I come from a completely different area and have zero connections here.

That’s actually pretty much the first thing anyone looking for building land learns: you either have connections yourself or you have others who do, or you end up paying for it. If you want to have the grandchildren nearby, you have to keep your ears open for the children-in-law. Without ears pricked up, you won’t hear the grass grow.

Counter-question: do the parents-in-law have to be 4 houses away? One town over can also be quickly reached for childcare, etc., but might be cheaper or there might be an infrastructure that justifies such square meter prices.

When I was a kid, the great-grandparents lived on the same (rural side) street, and I was allowed and able to go there alone. One town over, you would already need accompanied transport. But the fact that this extra comfort doesn't cure the prices still remains.
