Of course walls do not breathe. They can have different moisture-regulating effects. That is often what is meant by "open". Especially helpful if you do not want a ventilation system.

Yes, we have now decided on a color. And a ventilation system is also present.

With a ventilation system, you shouldn’t have any problems anyway. May I ask which paint manufacturer and type you will be using?

Hello everyone, We might be planning the same thing in our guest bathroom, here you can save on tiles if you don’t have a shower or similar. We have a guest WC with 1.5 sqm that we actually want to leave un-tiled. We would also be interested in the type of paint, we have latex paints around the dining corner in our current rental apartment, we like it – our kids, too.

Advantages and disadvantages of the selection Advantages of tiles

[*]Easy to clean [*]No staining (for example grease splashes from hand soap) [*]Extremely waterproof [*]Aesthetically matching the ceramics of the toilet and washbasin [*]Can be kept completely dust-free [*]Natural stone tiles have individual texture and radiance [*]Antistatic
Disadvantages of tiles

[*]Committed to the decor in the long term or [*]A lot of effort when replacing or painting [*]No effect on the indoor climate [*]Can form sound membranes and amplify echoes
Advantages of paint

[*]Not dependent on available decors [*]Can be chosen washable [*]Can have a positive effect on indoor climate (diffusion-open) [*]Can be applied as a visual room enlarger
Disadvantages of paint

[*]Not stain-proof (splash water, soap splashes) [*]Difficult to clean [*]Lower gloss factor than tiles [*]Can bind dust
Types of paint and properties

Even though the splash water exposure in a guest WC is manageable, a waterproof wall paint can exclude this small risk of staining. Waterproof paints include:

[*]Latex paint [*]Acrylic and synthetic resin paint [*]Silicate paints (diffusion-open with indoor climate influence)

Best regards, Dan

In Scandinavia, a fiberglass wallpaper sealed with latex is tested in bathrooms. Latex today is actually an acrylic dispersion. I no longer know of genuine latex made from rubber tree milk on the market. We have kitchens and bathrooms with fiberglass and Stocryl. Tiles only in the actual shower area and above the sink. This proves effective. Fiberglass is glued, not pasted, caution, not for beginners.

There are other systems besides the ones you mentioned, such as paints and sealants. see Dold. Therefore, many of the mentioned disadvantages do not exist.
