Hello forum users,
after building our house a few years ago, we are now going to renovate the bathroom on the upper floor. We have planned a walk-in shower there, which will be tiled.
The current status is: screed is in place, the shower drain is installed in the screed, the walls consist of impregnated drywall panels.
The shower area (80x80cm) is planned in a corner and the screed in this area was lowered by 1cm to later be able to lay the tiles with a slope towards the drain. The drain is centrally recessed. Now I would like to slope this area diagonally (slope from the outside towards the center) so that the water gets a defined flow direction.
My question is: which material should I use for this?
([Here I was recommended repair and modeling mortar???])
After the slope is finished, I plan to seal this area with a so-called liquid membrane. ([I also use this for the walls, the corners are sealed with corresponding sealing tape and then sealed with a second layer of liquid membrane])
--
If the name liquid membrane does not ring a bell, it has the consistency of liquid paint and after curing becomes a rubber-like mass.
--
The liquid membrane will then be covered with tiles.
My second question: Can I use normal grout, or does special grout have to be used in the shower area, and if so, where? Only on the floor area, or also on the wall area?
There are various opinions on this topic, both positive and negative, but I hope to find some experience here in this forum. There will probably be some who have gone this way before me.
