Hello,

I need your help with the network cabinet.

I want a 19-inch network cabinet for wall mounting.
We are getting a cable connection provided by Vodafone.

Which depth would you recommend, 40 or 45 cm? I will not need 60 cm.

Which height would you recommend? 6, 7, 9 or 12 U?

Our CAT7 cables all come into the basement with keystones.

What currently should go into the network cabinet:

1x 24 port patch panel with keystone slots
1x 16 port switch
1x Fritzbox 6660 or 6690
1x power strip

What could still be added to the network cabinet later?

We are also getting satellite; 4 satellite cables come from the roof to the basement and then 5 satellite cables go from the basement to the rooms.

Can we also neatly integrate the satellite distribution into the network cabinet or should that be done separately?

If there is space, I would go for 45cm depth and 12U.

In terms of depth, some space is lost at the front because the devices are mounted recessed to make room for the patch cables. 60cm would be more suitable for a rack-mounted NAS or server. I don’t think something like that will be coming to you?

What could possibly be added in the future:? Second small switch with POE or POE injectors? Small NAS to place inside? Having space is better than needing it!

Put in SAT, no idea? For a new build, I would probably leave it out today, since linear TV is hardly used here anymore. But everyone has different requirements and expectations.

What I have, how much space would still remain with the 12U height? About a little or still quite a bit?

Would 9U already be relatively tight?

Yes, possibly for 1-2 POE switches in those rooms to save power outlets in the room.

I wouldn’t know what for.

I just thought it looks tidier, but we can also mount it separately.

We still watch linear TV quite a lot, especially for sports events like football.

I would also recommend the 45 depth. You can fit your listed components in 4 U, but something always gets added later.

In the end, the question is how much space you have for the cabinet; cost-wise, it doesn't have a huge impact. However, I would take 9 U to be expandable.

I would prefer to do the SAT cabling in a small mounting box next to the network cabinet; that is much nicer and easier on a mounting plate.

I often have to work in and on such sub-distributions. You are grateful for every extra HE! Sometimes you can only reach from the front to the back, e.g. to grab a newly laid cable and pull it forward, etc. Especially if you can't open these small distributors from the side (e.g. because they don't have removable side panels or some idiot placed them in the corner ;-)

Thank you for your messages

At our wall in the technical room, we have space for the network cabinet between 2 pipes

The space is about 75cm wide and about 90 maybe 100 cm high

So you would recommend 45cm depth to me?

You are already advising against 7 HE.
What would be better for us, 9 or 12 HE?

It shouldn't be too big either.

The Fritzbox 6690 also requires quite a bit of space due to the upright design

What kind of mounting box would you recommend for Sat?
