why shouldn't 3.5m be enough? Sure, it gets tight, especially when transporting prefab house parts that can sometimes cause overwidth/height. But they won't have more than 3.5m on the road either (otherwise, they wouldn’t be allowed to drive or it would be extremely expensive! So coordinate the situation with the GU/BU and ask. A crane space usually has 6x6m, but the (foldable) crane itself is only about 2.5m in the unassembled state. I wouldn’t worry about something that hasn’t happened yet ...

The 3.5 m is of course sufficient. But the driveway is too narrow. They can't get around there. I was already on site with the construction manager.

An alternative is to place the crane on the property and lift the prefabricated parts over the house in front. This would have to be done twice, as the basement and the prefab house are not from the same supplier. It is questionable whether trucks can drive away with soil or concrete mixers can access the site. I am expecting additional costs of more than 20,000 euros with this solution.

our driveway was about 6m wide for maneuvering into a 3m construction road

In my opinion, the owner of the house can refuse the shifting of loads over their property. Add that to your to-do list.

Strange why one has to build a prefabricated house in such an access situation. 3.5 m is no problem for normal construction vehicles. Traffic just stops while the truck reverses into the driveway. That’s quite normal here.
