Refrigerator with fixed water connection

My question is how long the supply hose for the refrigerator can be?

The hose has a 1/4" diameter.

The water connection in our kitchen is about 3m away from the refrigerator.

Do we have to provide a separate water connection for the refrigerator?

Or can we run a thin 1/4" pipe surface-mounted to the refrigerator

Or is the 3m long supply hose sufficient?
