If noise is such a disturbance and 8 dB is desired on the terrace, then the wall must completely surround the house to shield against lawn mowers, string trimmers, etc. I no longer hear the cars, but hours of mowing,... :)

The basics
We have lived right next to it for 20 years now. I still have not gotten used to the traffic noise. In comparison, a lawn mower sounds as "pleasant" to me as the "plucking of a harp." ;-) Especially because the lawn is mowed at most once a week while the cars speed by almost continuously every day.

If the noise bothers you that much, then maybe another property. What do you gain if it is quiet and you live in a cage? Noise perception is subjective

No, it’s not worth it. However, forming and initiating interest groups is worth it. At our old place of residence, we were able to initiate speed reductions on both local and district roads – not at every location, but at some. At our new place of residence, we manage to get communities to leave more meadow on green strips and are increasingly gaining approval to avoid gravel gardens. Those who create majorities bring about change; that is our system. On some beautiful weekend days, in some places, you can count over 200 motorcyclists per hour roaring through the villages, acoustically bombarding entire valleys all day long. Nothing against motorcyclists, but the dose makes the poison. Stronger and stronger interest groups are forming here as well, and changes are in sight. With a bit of stamina, political engagement is worthwhile and ultimately also a foundation for the functioning of our democratic system. This doesn’t solve your problem immediately, but in the long run the same problem for many.

That's exactly what it's about, to examine a "life decision" to the best of one's knowledge and conscience so as not to regret it later.

I will bring this up in a chat with the neighbor. Let's see what the response is like. Good argument!
