And how did you manage to argue that now?

Well, the argument was that the house has practically been in the family since 1945 and has been continuously inhabited. Our architect also argued that my wife is pregnant and we simply need an additional room with a shower bathroom..... I think, in the end, it was exactly the right architect with the necessary connections that made the difference. Lucky us.

Will you report on your project?

I do think that we will report on our project. I cannot say in what form yet. Almost nothing is set in stone at the moment. Right now, only the exterior dimensions of the building are determined. Everything else is currently in planning, and we will only see in the coming weeks which direction it will take.

We ourselves still have thousands of questions in mind, so it will take a little while before it gets started...

Small update: It has turned out that an extension is not possible after all, as the existing building would not have "survived" it... Now we have been verbally assured that the building will be demolished and rebuilt, including the approved extension. We are currently waiting for the written permission, which is still pending. Since this is a [landscape protection area], our architect always tried to get the responsible environmental authority on board first and repeatedly approached the building authority, and that's how it came about. So far, this has cost a lot of nerves, time, and a nice amount of money in the lower five-figure range (lawyer fees, architect fees, structural engineer report, surveying engineering office, construction company....) without having received a valid building permit to date. So anyone considering undertaking something like this... can expect quite a lot.
