Hello,
I have a question for you as well. We are considering how to best plan the home network and whether there are any further tips/improvements.
We want to lay network cables (Cat-7 cables) throughout the entire house, with a total of 9 double sockets. We want to lay Cat-7 duplex cables and connect them to CAT-6a sockets. We also want to connect the telephone to a network socket and possibly watch TV over the internet later.
Our router only has 4 ports for network cables, so we need a switch, or are there other solutions? What should we pay attention to when choosing a switch?
Do we also need a patch panel, or is it not necessary?
Can we buy any CAT-7 duplex cable, or are there some things to consider?
Thank you very much in advance for your tips.
Regards

Why CAT7? Why not Cat5? Do you need more than 4 ports for internet access? You don't need a patch panel, you can also crimp connectors and plug them in yourself. What for duplex cables? Within the house, you can also split the eight wires of a Cat cable across 2 sockets! Unless you want to set up a gigabit network

Hello, CAT-7 because everyone recommends it and because we want to watch TV over the Internet later. Yes, we want to install more than 4 network sockets in the house and therefore also have the question of how I have to/can connect them. Duplex cable so that we do not have to lay two separate lines to the socket. We prefer to plan CAT-7 right away so that we have peace of mind for a long time. We would still be very grateful for tips.

Who advises that? The electrician? Friends who think higher Cat = better?
Cat7 is for Gigabit, TV over the internet already runs with 16Mbit!!!
I don't mean 4 network sockets, but whether you actually connect more than 4 devices via LAN, or if the 4 ports on the router are enough? Possibly several devices via WLAN?
And as I said about duplex, if you want 2 sockets for example for internet and telephone, one cable is enough.

Otherwise, you need a switch or hub.
I would do a patch panel for orderliness.
I wouldn't know where there should be differences in the cable, except for the color. They have the specification through the CAT. Maybe some are a bit stiffer, others more flexible.

The electrician advises us to do this because it is the future and after all, we are now building a house for the future. There will be a maximum of 4 devices on the internet at the same time, so the 4 ports will be enough, but if you want to connect to the network at another socket, you have to switch in the utility room first, which is not the best either. Otherwise, we would connect the router to a switch and from there go to the patch panel, right? How does it work that from the switch there are then several ports? But if I only lay one cable to a 2-port network socket, I only have half the speed each, which is why we want to lay duplex cables.

Then your electrician should tell you the prices for CAT 5! The future, yes sure, but do you drive a hybrid because of that? It's also the future. Are you aware of what CAT7 can do? We won't reach that in the PRIVATE sector in 20 years. Cat5 is more than enough, but that's my opinion (I work with bandwidths beyond gigabit). The idea that speed is halved is nonsense! You only need 4 wires for Ethernet 1, 2, 3, and 6 and telephone requires 2 wires! Nothing is halved there. For Gigabit, however, you need all 8 wires. If you need the 4 connections and they constantly switch rooms, sure, then get a switch. I do not understand the question about the slots?!
