There will probably be no home application where you need such a high data throughput. Cat5 would be completely sufficient. Unless you operate a data center.

The 2.5 Gbit ports on NAS and router are becoming more and more common. I would no longer install Cat5 today.

I installed CAT7 in case I ever get to enjoy fiber optics. CAT8 in the private sector probably not.

However, with CAT7, it should be noted that the connectors are different. To take advantage of the benefits of CAT7, a different connector (GG45) is used. With a conventional connector (RJ45), it is "only" CAT6(a) – if I remember correctly. Please feel free to correct me if necessary.

You are right, but of course, you could also use a Cat.8.1 connector, then it is not automatically Cat.8 but better than Cat.6a. ;)

Thank you very much for your answers, I will first install CAT7. I also assume that it will be sufficient for a very long time. So far, 1Gbts is enough for me.

To get back to the actual topic, has anyone noticed anything that doesn't fit? Something that I can solve better or more easily?
