Hello

I know some people who would be happy to start the adventure of building a house with that much equity. 350,000 euros are available. The plot costs 100,000. If then another 100,000 comes from the bank, the place should stand. Maybe help out a bit yourself and the extra wishes are covered. Currently, an effective annual interest rate of under 1.2% is normal. At least with this loan-to-value ratio. That means 1,200 euros interest per year, so 100 euros per month. Then another 400 euros repayment and the whole thing fixed for 20 years. Now that's a solid financing.

She doesn't have nothing, she lived nicely for years(?).

It depends on whether and how you arrange it. The general/shared living expenses (food, drinks, GEZ/broadcasting fee, water, electricity, landline/internet, building insurance, property tax, garbage, ...) could be split equally. Up to that point, no house has been financed yet. It is then up to both parties to find a way that neither "lets one finance the other's house" nor allows one to live free of cost.

I also know such partnerships that split everything fifty-fifty and pay separately in restaurants. One couple even has a child... then one buys the diapers and the other the wet wipes...

I find that pretty silly. What kind of relationship is that?!!! Pff... some people are just nuts

Just because I say I would like to finance the house alone, I am being told how I should manage my relationship. And that we would share everything equally...?

No.. just slightly off track The core message: You are still very young and building a house isn’t going anywhere. Better to first see how things develop with the relationship/family etc.

Regards, Steffen (who "tested" with his wife for 8 years until the wedding and 14 years until building the house)

We are going around in circles... The OP wants to build a house, which is understandable, so he should do it. Whether and what is possible will be explored by the banks.
