Well, I understand Alessandro: I also once spent an evening at friends' where at some point I would have preferred frog legs in garlic white wine sauce instead of grilled food...

But that is, one has to realize, only a relatively short time of the year during which you are exposed to it. And you can also illuminate a pond. I find that nicer too, so instead of blue light from the pool: rather small spotlights in the shallow water.

A natural swimming pond doesn't have to look like a "natural" pond. The important thing here is the shores as purification zones. It then looks more like this:

You can see it even better here:

So this is more like a "pool." The crucial thing is these shore zones, which can be designed very nicely and ensure that you can do without chlorine, etc. And personally, I think something like this fits more beautifully into a garden than a bright blue rectangle.

Most people imagine something like this with natural swimming ponds:

The "frog risk" is certainly much higher there. I would probably prefer something like that too, but if someone wants more of a pool, the above examples are better suited. Lighting is also possible there! But the decisive factor is always the clarifying shore zone, which saves you a lot of work.

One last thing, then I’ll stop with the natural pool: we have a public swimming pool here that is designed exactly like that. Because someone here expressed fear of some little creatures in the pool. So there are no little creatures. Maybe a few crickets in the shore area and possibly frogs (I can’t judge that because I was never there at those times, so I didn’t see any). I just like it when you don’t have that chlorine smell.

For those who want to know more: [Kauferinger Naturfreibad] or [Lechtalbad].

Swimming ponds up to natural pools are quite nice but also have some disadvantages. We have moved away from them as well. Too cold for sensitive people since they are not meant to be heated, cannot be covered, high maintenance effort, ... A normal pool can also fit in. It’s a matter of taste. 8x4 meters is a standard size for pools. Proper swimming only with counter-current system. From 12 meters it is no longer necessary.

I have dug out some pictures here to better illustrate the garden situation and so that you can see why I would like to avoid the south

I find natural ponds very beautiful visually, but as Rick has already written, they are also very maintenance-intensive. If you don't take care of them regularly, they quickly look shabby and overgrown everywhere.
