Great, thank you very much, the two construction companies we have spoken to so far have only said that we need to take care of the pond before the actual construction. Unfortunately, it didn't sound like they would handle it at the same time, but that could definitely be arranged. And yes, the pond is lined with a thick plastic sheet that needs to be disposed of.

Hi,
10*7 m practically screams basement to me, you’ve already done half the excavation. But it’s very much a matter of opinion and can’t be easily judged from a distance.
But in general:
I would have the larger earthworks done by the construction company that is preparing the basement/foundations anyway. They usually come with the really big excavator and can quickly take care of some garden area, a driveway, a pond, or whatever. It might then cost 2-3 hours with the big excavator.
The garden landscapers usually show up with toy excavators and then need 2-3 days for the same job. It doesn’t help you if the excavator hour rate with the garden landscaper is "only" €60. We paid €85/hour for the big excavator. And it was finished in a fraction of the time...

Best regards,

Andreas

Are they perhaps thinking that the water and the film should be gone? But that should be the least problem. Do you want to build yourselves or with an architect?

For filling, you only need a small wheel loader and a vibrating plate. It goes quite fast. If that's already too difficult for the contractor, he is not the right one.

First of all, thank you Andreas for the hint, I had not thought about that yet. We plan to build ourselves

Yes, I'll inquire about that again. That may well be the case.
