Hello everyone

I have used the search function and unfortunately did not find any further clues.
Therefore, I throw this question into the round.

We are planning (with an architect) a new building with completion at the end of 2013/spring 2014

What would you rely on?
- Cable TV
- Sat
- iPTV
?

I currently tend towards iPTV, i.e. TV over the internet.

I expect that I can supply a TV super easily wherever there are LAN sockets, and that I save myself the SAT system along with cabling and corresponding sockets.

What would you tend to?

What should I pay attention to in iPTV in your opinion?

Or am I on the wrong track with my thought model?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Best regards

Hello! Cable and iPTV have the big disadvantage that you are dependent on one provider. On the one hand, you have to pay hefty fees, on the other hand, they can broadcast whatever they want or not at all. I can still remember well how our former cable operator back then kicked out our local channel and replaced it with one of the annoying sales channels. After that, I canceled and bought a satellite system. The costs were recovered in less than 2 years. In the new building, I have now installed SAT connections and network cables at all relevant points. This way, you remain open to everything.....

If I didn't need SAT-TV due to local conditions, I would never do it again. I find it deeply antisocial, to put it colloquially. Channel slots are constantly changing, scans take a long time, setting up channel lists also takes hours, at least with 5 TVs in the house, not to mention the supposed program variety. They have 3000 channels. Of those, 1500 are definitely duplicates. Of the remaining 1500, 1000 are in foreign languages. The remaining 500 consist of chat/dating/shopping channels and some kind of rubbish that no one needs. In the end, you watch exactly the channels you already had on cable. Only with considerably higher technical effort.

Opinions are so different, I am currently still with Kabel Deutschland and looking forward to my Sat system.
I pay €11 per month for HD channels that I haven’t even been allowed to record for a few weeks now, and Timeshift doesn’t work anymore either. In addition, the HD quality is really poor compared to Sat.

The few channels are quickly set up, and there are also programs for the PC to do this for many TVs.

For me, it will look like this in the new building:

Sat dish on the roof with cables running to the basement
from there via a multiswitch with star wiring to all rooms
LAN wiring to all TVs
Cable connection for the Internet

This way I can use Sat, but if needed also Cable or IPTV.

I did it the same way and can only recommend it. Especially the cable connection for the internet is very valuable. In our case, we have a 50,000 connection instead of a 6,000 one with Telekom (even though all the neighbors have 16,000, it is apparently not guaranteed by Telekom that you will also get 16,000). It only costs an additional 200 to 250 euros for the house connection in new constructions.

Inquire in advance what you are allowed/can do. With us, Kabel Deutschland did NOT lay any cable in a new development with 400 units. So that is already off the table. DSL is only available at 6k – which makes IPTV pretty unlikely, unless LTE can do that? That left only the satellite dish. In other building areas with us, satellite dishes are completely prohibited. So: first clarify the legal and existing framework conditions.
