In 2013, a living space of approximately 30 sqm was laid with 22 mm rustic oak strip parquet and subsequently white oiled. Annual cleaning and refreshing were carried out independently. In the context of a tenant change, I am considering an intensive refurbishment. The parquet is undamaged but looks dirty, dull, and colorless. There are offers from companies that want to sand down the parquet and then seal it. Alternatively, there are suggestions to prime several times and seal with a "Grund white Mittel." Understandably, the price per sqm varies accordingly. What should be preferably chosen – or is there a – sensible – possibility/alternative to refresh the floor with appropriate professional products and machine polishing by a specialist company without sanding it down? Or is this not a sensible option in the long term? Thanks in advance for tips and advice.

Sometimes it may be sensible to hire a company for this. Especially when it concerns a large area and it should be professional. It definitely makes a difference

The parquet floor has now been in use for 10 years. At that time, "white oiled" means that white pigments were used in the surface protection. These pigments - which is understandable - are not infinitely durable, but are worn away abrasively by use more or less. Usually, after 5-10 years, depending on the intensity of use, the builder will not be able to avoid renovating the parquet surface. Renovating always involves material removal, thus sanding the entire surface. This also sands out wear-related inevitable indentations caused, for example, by scratches. Now the raw wood lies before us, and we must first decide how the next surface protection should look. Whether sealing or an oil/wax mixture, that depends on the preferences and inner attitude of the builder. Both methods have their justification! One just has to know that pigmented surfaces are more sensitive in this regard, because a slow removal of the pigments will always be visible. It is strongly discouraged to carry out a parquet renovation yourself if you do not have the appropriate training as a parquet layer!! The result will never be satisfactory. ------------------- Greetings to all: KlaRa
