Hello everyone, hope you are all healthy
we are considering how best to cover our terrace, which will be done in 4 weeks. Size of the terrace: approx. 7 x 4m. Our garden is on the south side, so we definitely need sun protection. The terrace will be made along the entire side of the house next to the bay window, so up to the right side of the house (that's about 7 m) and 4 m deep.
At first, we thought about an awning, 6 x 4 m. But then a friend brought up a fixed sunshade with a louvered roof. The problem is: we have a bay window on the left, then the patio door for 2 m and then a 2 m wide window. To avoid it looking so inconsistent, you would have to cover the entire 7 meters width between the bay window and the right corner of the house, but that would be quite expensive with a louvered roof, > 15k€. Moreover, a local company said that it is hardly possible to have it that wide. They can offer intermediate sizes 4.09 m wide, 5.09 m wide and 5.98 m wide. But that always goes right through a window or always in a way that doesn't look good.
An awning would be the easier option at about 3k€, but for example, if it rains a bit, an awning does not offer protection. We are absolute outdoor fans and always outside in summer.
Do you have any idea how best to solve this? What could be done? Maybe something completely different?? We also thought about a roof made of translucent photovoltaic panels, since we might want to fully equip our roof with them. We are overwhelmed and clueless ..
Attached are also pictures of the house.
Thanks and regards,
