You can see again that without a complete plan you can say little. I think the majority of readers assume that the "bay window" or dormer is also supposed to be found on the upper floor. But one could also interpret the whole thing in such a way that only a winter garden is below and the balcony is on top.
Winter garden – I don’t even know if there is a clear definition for that at all. If I just install enough windows properly, I can call almost any building that.

However, he first wants a bay window.
I also don’t read anything about a cross gable. You can certainly ask the OP about that, but I consider it pointless to pepper the answers with this assumption.

If I infer, however, that the OP is also not opposed to a winter garden, assuming (mistakenly on his part) that a bay window is not allowed, then a cross gable does not occur to me at all. Not even in combination with a tent roof.

That's exactly what I am referring to. However, we would like an extension to create more living space on the ground floor. On the upper floor, the extension should be used as a balcony. We want direct access from the house to the extension without spatial separation. Therefore, the conservatory is rather out of the question.

Either you build a conservatory or you build with a bay window, with a balcony on top. The definition of a conservatory includes translucent materials in the roof. (why on earth would anyone need a balcony?… in most cases it is the leak where rain comes in for a part that you don't use anyway - along with the garden)

With a balcony above a bay window, most builders are suddenly very disappointed when they realize that you cannot step out at the same height, but have to step up because the insulation is thicker.

Yes, so we would like to have a bay window with a balcony on top, for what the balcony haha well….. My wife already loves to lie in the sun in spring, but the garden is too cold for her, whereas the balcony is not…. She also prefers to lie on the balcony in summer because it is warmer there… I don't understand my wife in this regard either.

Here is a picture of the exterior view, maybe that better explains our wish. Of course, things like railings and gutters are still missing, but as already said, as a complete layman, it is not possible for me to draw everything correctly.

Of course, it would also be possible to place more windows in the extension (bay window). Also, the window arrangement above is not final. There is only one window planned in the master and children's rooms each and one window from the hallway to the balcony so that it can be used by everyone.
