OK, so what are the alternatives then? Unfortunately, the plot does not allow for any more width. At 8.16m width, that’s absolutely the limit. We still have space at the back… Kitchen wider (then it’s no longer so ergonomic between the rows), hallway narrower? that’s not possible, shower toilet smaller? also rather not. A storage room/wardrobe is definitely sensible, so we don’t always have to go to the basement… The staircase shouldn’t be made smaller either. We also considered placing the entrance on the left side of the plan, but then it is already very hidden from the street and also not easily accessible if we put another garage or parking space higher up towards the street. We really like a combined living/dining/kitchen area. The only thing is that we don’t need as much space for the dining area as it appears here, we will expand the other two areas instead. What would certainly make sense in terms of accessibility is if we swapped the large sliding door and the fixed window at the bottom of the plan. Then possibly replace the balcony door and the fixed window on the right side of the plan with a similar sliding door? Is that a sensible alternative? For the dining room, we only have a cabinet just over 1m wide, which we also want to place there. A bright house unfortunately always means little surface area for furniture… ops:

Thank you very much.

With 8 meters in width, you don’t have to orient yourself to terraced houses, but you should follow their rules. The first is: use narrow stairs. The stair landing shown there is way too deep with its 2.80. This constricts the rest. Since you don’t want an open staircase, everything is additionally stretched out lengthwise.

I would question many things. For example, why you need a shower on the ground floor if the guest room is upstairs. Why no open staircase? There are no children you could disturb. Since you like to cook, you should know that fish smell also passes through closed doors, or actually good-smelling aromas travel through the house. Bookshelves can also be included in the shell construction and can be custom-built or newly purchased. A good floor plan shouldn’t fail because of that. Essentially, I question the entire basement anyway; I would rather build it one meter bigger (longer). But there are plenty of discussions here about how to deal with lawnmowers, clutter, and trash.

But now the planning continues here with the basement first. I didn’t say the kitchen should be wider, but shorter. You even plan to extend it further.

As I already said: the staircase is what makes this house impossible to design with these dimensions without you/we finding disadvantages in the design.

I sketched something, although I am currently not in my creative phase.

Regarding the shower on the ground floor: we only have one bathroom upstairs, but we want both to be able to shower in the morning... Also, it is a "emergency shower" in case we can no longer go upstairs. My sofas always have a sleeping function. So if one of us breaks a leg (or something like that), he can sleep, shower, and eat. In an emergency, some clothes can also be stored in the wardrobe. Do I understand your floor plan correctly now, with an open staircase? and then between the living room and hallway without a wall? Otherwise, the hallway would be completely dark... By mirroring the kitchen and staircase/WC, the missing window in the ground floor wall is now at the staircase, which gets light from above through the windows upstairs. The kitchen can have windows to the west. I have to "let that sink in". Thank you very much!

Between the stairs and the living room is a wall!

Just google "Grundriss Doppelhaushälfte". There you will find many options on image search for how to design the floor plan.

Best regards

Or you can also find nice examples on Pinterest.
If you absolutely want a podium staircase, the left proposal might be something? The guest room can be modeled slightly smaller, so you get more space for wardrobe or kitchen. This floor plan should of course be mirrored vertically so that dining and kitchen are in the west for window areas.
In the upper floor, the work area can then become the dressing room.
