We have an east-facing garden and are looking forward to it! Drive through new residential areas and look at the houses with south(/west) orientation that don’t have [Raffstores]. Almost all of them have their shutters down even in February now when the sun is out because it gets too warm or too bright.

We can open our entire east front completely from 11 a.m., and it gets really bright without the rooms overheating.

Of course, I can’t assess what it’s like to look east onto a slope.

Exactly. Because what do you do when you have sun in the afternoon in summer? You bring artificial shade.

For us, half still has sun and we still have a potential seating area with sun until late in the evening. But we only sit in the shade anyway. We also always keep the children's pool where it is warmed by the sun until midday and lies in the shade from around 2/3 pm when they want to swim. Perfect thing.
Where there is always sun, the plants fight for survival. In the shady half, they have a few hours of protection from the blazing summer sun. I can only see advantages and would never orient my house to the south.

I would like to show you a screenshot or situation sometime. But I think due to data protection, that will probably be difficult, right?

The greatest advantage or benefit of a south-west orientation lies in the dark seasons. Rooms in which one spends a long time still receive a lot of daylight.

It should work like this, even if the quality might not be that good... the red frame is the house or the garden (small rectangle)... the two I had to rotate the second picture for better visibility. So it is viewed from the west.

Or you apply sunscreen properly and fry yourself like me 2 Pantone shades darker.

A house facing east would be practically ruled out for me personally. I had that with my balcony in my bachelor pad and quickly got tired of sitting in the shade from 1:30 pm. Especially in spring, it also gets cool quickly.

It is and remains a matter of taste.
