OK, I can understand that - I would only explain once and then regularly call the police. In such behavior, you can forget about good neighborliness anyway. My statement referred to weekends or occasionally during the week. But not regular mayhem.

Well, I still shy away from the police because I don't want to destroy the last basis. They don't notice it because they simply have a different rhythm. They don't even partly live here but are the adult children with their children. It was really great when one of the sons once told me how wonderfully quiet it was here. I just dryly told him that the peace was over since the family moved in there. I make the best of it.

From my time in building inspection, I can report the following:

1. The building inspection does not care what you do on your property, as long as no neighbor or the municipality comes and complains.

2. Most complaints from neighbors do not come because they are bothered by the violation, but because they have conflicts with the neighbors.

3. Reports to the building inspection lead very quickly to escalation, especially in a new development area. One should carefully consider whether they want this. Living side by side with someone you are in conflict with for a lifetime can be very nerve-wracking.

4. Seek and you shall find. Even if you believe you are following all the rules, this is certainly not the case, or eventually it will happen that you also break the rules. Then you can no longer hope for leniency yourself.

5. Life is much more pleasant if you occasionally turn a blind eye, then you can expect the same from others. In Germany, it is hardly possible to comply with all the rules or to know all of them. Eventually, every traffic violation, violation against quiet times, if the dog is not leashed, etc. will be reported. Whether you want to live like that is something everyone must decide for themselves.

From my time with the police, I can say that when the same citizens repeatedly call because of their neighbors, they are the ones people roll their eyes at because they are considered troublemakers and unable to resolve such issues at the appropriate level. They are aware that the police are being used as a tool. And since most of these issues are civil matters, there is nothing the police can do except check if everything is alright (excluding criminal offenses). It is interesting (but equally sad) when property damage is reported due to cutting down someone else's trees or trimming branches and plants. Eventually, the air rifle comes out, but then the fun is definitely over.

In many cases, threatening to or informing the police and a lawyer is just the grown-up version of "I'm telling my mom!"
