Hello everyone,
a brief simplified explanation regarding income tax:
For a couple, unmarried, each is taxed separately, and each taxpayer also receives an allowance of about 9,000 euros.
For a married couple, the income is added together, the double allowance of 18,000 euros is deducted, and then this result is divided by 2. This is then the taxable income per person.
Example (without church tax):
Salary Person 1: 60,000
Salary Person 2: 20,000
For separate assessment:
Tax Person 1: 17,500
Tax Person 2: 2,500
Tax total: 20,000
For joint assessment (married)
Tax total: 18,300
Savings: 1,700
The more different the incomes are, the higher the savings. The tax class, and you have correctly recognized this, only influences the amount of the advance payment, not the tax burden.
In the concrete example, the lady as a tax clerk probably earns significantly less, and therefore getting married would financially be worthwhile. However, of course, this should not be the basis for the two and the wedding.
Also, as a tax clerk, the lady probably knows about this tax issue herself.
Best regards, Ralf
