Hi guys,

I am very inexperienced with this topic.
We want to build next year and in the construction specification there are several Cat 7 connections included.

What can you do with them?
Is it only for telephone and television?

Where is it useful?

Best regards, Florian

According to Wikipedia, CAT7 are network cables. The purpose is apparently to be able to operate a computer with a network connection in every room, independent of Wi-Fi.

Cat7 sockets are normal LAN outlets. Much more important, however, is the question of whether empty conduits are present. The rest can then possibly be retrofitted.

What about a patch panel. Is there any mention of that anywhere?

The construction service description states that the patch panel is to be installed on site in the utility room. (I think)
So, the patch panel is definitely on site.
What is the patch panel then?

Simply put, it is a cabinet where all the Cat7 cables arrive. However, it is still questionable whether Cat7 cables and, more importantly, empty conduits are present at all. So far, I only read something about Cat7 sockets.

The sizing and especially the price of the patch panel and switch depend on the number of Cat7 sockets. Double sockets (socket with 2 LAN connections) naturally count twice. The internet connection can still run through a cheap router that is simply connected to the switch.

Here is the quote from the construction service description:

Workroom and children's room each receive a data connection socket Cat.6 with connecting cable Cat.7 for connecting computer devices. The connecting cable ends in the utility room. Purchase and connection of a patch panel are carried out by the builder as self-performance.

So that would be 3 rooms!!!
