Update on March 6, 2025

Topic Savings:

Initial savings are already showing effects, my wife now supports our dream of owning a house. We were able to pull together now. In February 2025, we have already saved 279 euros, our goal is 500 euros monthly. I think we will achieve that from March 2025.

Topic Equity:

The apartment sale (1-bedroom apartment in Stuttgart) is proceeding very slowly, you can tell that the real estate market has taken a hit. The layoffs at many companies are now also impacting the real estate market.

The agent has deactivated the listing and will market the reduced price in consultation with me. I am optimistic that we will find a buyer within the next 3 months.

Topic House

We have two houses in view

One for 700,000 euros
One for 600,000 euros

We are waiting here, apparently houses are currently not in such demand. Many sellers cannot enforce their prices.

We want to wait here, once good equity is available we will strike for a lower price.

I will keep you updated

New builds are in high demand, prices are rising again now. Weak old buildings have now stabilized, prices depending on the region are still slightly down.

Requesting an update, how is the austerity measure going? Is your wife still with you?

Update

I hadn’t written anything because nothing had happened; I only wanted to report again if there were any news.
So now there is news.

Update 1

Apartment number 1 could be sold notarized for 125,000 euros. It is now available as complete equity.
More apartments are up for sale and we are very positive about that. My goal is to reach 500,000 euros.

Update 2

The savings plan is still going very well. We have 2 levers where we save.

Topic 1 Sustainability

We save on things like water, food (leftovers), electricity, heating, etc., these are trivial things like not washing clothes immediately but wearing them more often, or if food is expired we still eat it, so far no diarrhea. We used to throw away a lot, that has improved a lot. Environmentally we are great and save on top of that. My wife is fully on board.

Topic 2 Hard costs

Here we are saving more and more; we have turned into real bargain hunters. On weekends we check the flyers (online); if there are offers somewhere, we immediately buy "bulk quantities" of them. Also the topic of restaurant visits, we only go out to eat "for a reason," meaning if friends are there or an event.

Update 3

My wife wants to get out of the current living situation as soon as possible and is fully cooperating. We want to finally realize our dream of a house. The current apartment is simply too small, we cannot invite anyone over, we have no open spaces, no retreat room. I have understood that I cannot take everything away from my wife; women need some "free space," fancy dresses, etc. Perfumes, real hair extensions. Some things will be less but my first idea was: no expensive perfumes anymore, no expensive makeup, no dresses (only Shein).

It’s going well

Goal outlook:

The year 2025 is planned as preparation (capital buildup through sale of previous apartments + savings)

In 2026 we want to strike with strengthened equity (semi-detached house or single-family house)

Did you use to wear everything only once before washing?

Sounds like you are starting to do what other people have always done.

I hope you also understand how cringe-worthy this sentence is.

But nice that it’s working now.
