My neighbors have a cleaning lady, a friend has one, then another neighbor/friend is a housekeeper herself, a few colleagues have cleaning done, a friend of mine helps a cleaning lady with the books. I myself do not have a cleaning staff.
However, none of them actually do minijobs, but are all self-employed.

I would say it has more or less always been like this. The difference compared to before is the reach of many people's opinions. In the past, everyone lived much more in their own bubble. It extended to a radius of max. 500m around one's own house and then to the extended social area of work/club/other. This living circle has shifted significantly due to the internet, a good piece away from reality and there, in both positive and negative ways, into a new bubble. Times change, some change with them, some don’t, many feel overwhelmed by it and therefore "standing still" is the new "keeping up."

Cynical take: Consumption ensures that things don’t get worse for all of us. No consumption = no revenue = no taxes = no money for anything. The excessive consumption of others partially secures our system.
