Well ... it’s one way to just put up a few walls and then furnish it as best as you can. Maybe not always desirable, though. In the case of , we have almost 16 sqm of kitchen, which can be furnished sensibly, but not with much more than 5 to 6 meters of kitchen units. And you can fit that into 6 sqm of kitchen space if a room is WELL planned. You don’t need 15 sqm for that. And you have to develop this awareness. And, there are certainly concrete examples of application.

But if I have to save money when building a house, I would rather give up fairly expensive gimmicks like a 200 cm sliding door than a few sqm of space.

How would you plan the kitchen then? Smaller? Longer? Shorter? Sliding door gone? Thanks for your contributions, they help us to question this again. One more quick note about the kitchen unit: Everyone has their own ideas about the kitchen. That is completely legitimate. Currently, we have a kitchen unit in the house that stands only along one wall, about 4m. And I tell you, we have everything you need in there! The only thing that is a bit lacking is storage space. For that, we have a pantry. And in the current floor plan, we would actually have even more space. I don't have the measurements of our current kitchen in mind right now, I only know that it is smaller. But we have already eaten comfortably with 6 people there! I will measure our kitchen this evening. Thanks anyway! Don’t take my answers as disagreement! I am looking for opinions and appreciate that you are involved. Without you, I probably would never have questioned the staircase. I really thought the architect would have considered that, but apparently not. Now, the shortening of the house is practically off the table since the staircase has to be bigger. What do you think is a good straightforward staircase regarding measurements? Width 1m? Or wider? And the measurements 19/27?

There are other experts here regarding the kitchen.
Concerning the staircase, we are - as already mentioned - very satisfied.
A 27 cm tread and 18 cm rise resulted in 15 steps (16 risers) for us. The stairwell is 4.10 m long and 1.10 m wide (shell construction dimensions). The individual steps are 86 cm wide. The railing runs alongside the steps, which is why the stairwell is wider than the actual steps. Due to the relatively open staircase and the railing running beside it, the steps are also wide enough. With a closed solution, I probably would have had wider steps installed. But that is a matter of taste.

So far, I have cooked in a kitchen that also has a 4m run and I was pretty happy with it for 4 years.
