Hello,
I am currently in the process of sprucing up our kitchen.
I have stocked up on Imperative wall panels. Strangely, the installation manual includes a picture indicating that there should be a 2cm gap between the top finishing strip of the wall panels and the bottom edge of the wall cabinet. What does that look like – a 2cm gap between the panel and the wall cabinet? Does anyone have any idea what the gap is supposed to be for?

I am grateful for any hints.

Regards
Big-Jim

Hello,
here again is page 7 of the manual. Maybe someone still has an idea what the "gap" is supposed to be good for....

I don't really know, but I guess it's so that the top strip can be mounted and removed easily without having to take down the cabinet above. It could also be that not everything is mounted exactly parallel and then it doesn't fit somewhere. Additionally, it could be that the cabinets settle very slightly over time. If they rest on it, the glass might crack. If a decorative strip is mounted under the cabinets, the gap is usually not visible.

Hello IKEA expert,
Hello everyone,
yes - IKEA expert is right, I think that's why there must be a 2cm gap. I also looked at all the kitchens in Ikea again, and on every kitchen, this "crown" is mounted on the upper cabinets. That's why you actually wouldn't see the gap.....
But unfortunately, our upper cabinets do not have the crown or this decorative strip....

I have now left about a 5mm gap - in case the upper cabinets do settle a bit. To dismantle the strips, I now have to take down the upper cabinets.....

Now I still have to cut 2 glass panels - that will surely be fun....

Also, I would be grateful for tips on how to best backlight these glass panels. I have already held various LED strips behind them, but you can always see the light points of the LEDs, which unfortunately then looks like at a funfair. Does anyone have an idea how to do it better?

Regards
Big-Jim

PS: My countertop is about 4m long and unfortunately was not 1000% level. Because of this, mounting the glass panels is really difficult since the joints no longer run parallel - sweat - I had to put paper or cardboard snippets underneath each time - not so easy if you take it seriously....

Please DO NOT TRY TO CUT THE GLASS PANES!!!! This is tempered glass and will shatter into a thousand pieces!

That would be a shame...

Well.

Please report whether or how you solved the problem with cutting! I would also like to install the panels at my place, but I would have to cut something as well, and I have already heard various opinions, including from Ikea employees: these ranged from "have a glazier do it" to "it's impossible."
