I rather think of the bachelor who wants to own property but not deal with annoying homeowners' association meetings and house dragons. My brother-in-law had such a house with just under 80 m² until he moved in with his new partner. He had bought it a few years earlier from a lesbian couple. He could also sell the hut without any problems, but it is located in an attractive big city. You can still get rid of something like that quite well there. In the village or small town, I imagine it is much more difficult.

Isn't there a nice [Bestand] with 80-100 sqm where you live?

It’s just a question of what you feel like. When you’re old, you have a lot of time and especially every day. It doesn’t matter if you only do a little bit in the garden each day and then sit on the terrace with a book. I’m quite sure that when my parents move out of their house, the penthouse apartment won’t be an option anymore either, it will go straight to a nursing home. About the project itself... I assume 87 is the birth year and you are about the same age as me? For such a tiny house, life plans must not change significantly anymore. I see more the options with an existing house (even though that involves a certain risk and a lot of work) or a tiny house (mobile or for a low-loader) that you fix on a plot with a building permit. But of course, it’s not easy to reconcile that with normal building regulations.

I wouldn’t let the dream of a small house for 300 be talked out of by arguments like “hard to sell later,” or “too cramped,” or “not feasible.” Go for it. Buy a plot of land. Then see what’s possible. The plot is never a waste of money; if anything, it’s an investment. I know what I’m talking about because in 2013 we had one to build on; plans change, we decided not to build there but somewhere else, and we sold it despite taxes with a good profit within four! days. Then I’d go to a masonry company and present my ideas, have them calculate it, and build with such a small local company. Why? You get individual solutions. You usually know from the start the real final price. And even after moving in you’re not alone if something comes up. Usually these small companies are not more expensive than chains and franchise companies that have to support sales reps, thick brochures, a bunch of construction managers, etc. Get started. First land, then a house in the countryside.

Well ... Tiny house has to be on a tiny plot. In old age, a bungalow that is planned somewhat ahead, why not? Or really for the "eternal single." Everything should exist. So, I do see target groups :)

It's common among Americans... Just today in the newspaper from San Francisco. The move only costs €330k.
