but if the cable is sticking directly out of the ceiling, then there isn't much you can do about plastering over it

We also have two heat sources in our guest bathroom. Wall (behind the mirror) and ceiling. Both can be switched separately, so you don’t have to turn on both all the time. However, we also have a shower there in the guest bathroom. Without the shower, probably only the wall outlet would have been enough....

Yes, I am also currently thinking in the direction of [Serienschalter].

Is the wiring/cabling for a single switch different from that for a [Serienschalter]? So can something like that be used either way without problems, or would you have had to work towards the [Serienvariante] already when laying the cable?

What is a series circuit for you? Do you mean switch a lamp on at a and off at b again? then 5-core cable. Do you mean a switch with 2 toggles, each toggle switches a lamp, completely independently from each other. Then three-core is sufficient.

a double-pole switch that can switch A and B separately

So only the number of cores is decisive?

My husband likes to turn on the mirror light (I find it a bit cool) and I prefer the ceiling light, it has a nice warm hue. Each light on its own is bright enough.
