Dear forum,

I have already read several articles on the subject and was able to participate a little, but it is not entirely clear to me for our case. I am an absolute layman when it comes to this topic and now have to keep an eye on our interior builder, who is doing everything for us completely (initially in the offer). Since I would like to understand the services to be commissioned, I ask for plausible and if possible pictorial feedback with little technical jargon. Therefore, I apologize for the perhaps very layman-like expression!

Here is the basis: we are building a single-family house with ground floor / finished attic / uninsulated loft on a slab foundation. A satellite system with 5 participants (living room, 2x children’s rooms, office, bedroom) as well as LAN wiring of the mentioned rooms is desired.

First the LAN wiring, it was offered to set up the LAN central in the technology room and also position the router there. From there, the individual rooms will presumably be wired. I was offered as a position the laying of data cables including connectors (I understand this as wiring) as well as 5x BTR NETCOM connection socket, Cat. 7, 1x RJ45, Up0 TN E-DATmod-2Up0.
I have read a bit, for a network I then need a switch to take over the distribution. I don’t see this in the offer and that will be added later, right? Do I need other components?

How is it with WLAN in this case? Will I still be able to receive it throughout the house (timber frame construction) from the technology room or do I need an amplifier? I have also read about an access point, what should one imagine by that if I want WLAN also in the living room and upstairs? How does it look with the telephone? We no longer have a socket planned for it in the house, but it must be positioned somewhere. Is a normal Gigaset TECT telephone enough for me and do I only need a power connection to connect it to the router? Or is more needed?

Then about the satellite system, I was offered a rooftop satellite system with 5 participants, with multiswitch, 85 cm / LNB / centrally in the loft.
And as an extra position preparation satellite system coax cable in the loft and grounding from the loft to the technology room.

The price of the offered satellite system is clearly too high. Therefore, I would like to have only the preparation done and then award the rest separately. What do I need or how do I have to do that? Have a conduit laid from the loft to the technology room? How is the wiring of the individual rooms done? Does it run from the technology room to the rooms or directly from the satellite system in the loft? If LAN is already laid in the same rooms, is the cable for satellite then different (coax?)?

Many thanks in advance for help and feedback. It is incredible what challenges you have to face when building a house that you didn’t know existed before.

Best regards
Charly

"Data cable including plug"?
Can you please list exactly what is offered regarding LAN? Not just the sockets.
How many sockets do you want in which rooms? How big is the house?

So the offer is written in a very poor manner, which we have already criticized.
Offered was
- LAN pre-installation including cables in 5 rooms, each with 1 socket
- Laying of data cables including connectors
- 5x BTR NETCOM connection socket Cat 7 1x RJ45, Up0 TNE-DATmod-2Up0
Unfortunately, that is all that is written there.

I want to have a LAN connection in 5 rooms (living room, 2x children's rooms, office, bedroom). Is one socket per room sufficient?
The house has just under 150 sqm of living space.

Are these details helpful? Unfortunately, I have no more! As I said, the offer procedure of this service provider is, to put it mildly, a nuisance!

Thanks for your help!

At 150m², Wi-Fi should not be a problem. It should be available throughout the house and no access point is needed. However, you can never be absolutely sure. Therefore, I would have another LAN socket installed centrally on the upper floor (e.g.) in the hallway. That way you are on the safe side and can install an access point there if needed.

You could register the phone (handset) via DECT (wireless) at the router, so that in the living room or similar you only need a power outlet for the charging cradle. I assume you mean a DECT phone with the Gigaset TECT phone. However, the DECT connection is not ideal, it would be better with a cable. For that, you should have a TAE (telephone connection "socket") installed at the intended place for the phone (telephone cable, 2 wires are sufficient) or another LAN socket there.

Whether one LAN socket per room is enough cannot be answered here. We have installed a double socket in each room. As already mentioned, you should inquire what type of data cable it is (CAT5/6/7?)

Yes, the SAT cabling is completely different from the LAN cabling. SAT = COAX cable. The LAN cables run from your utility room to the respective rooms, the SAT cables from the LNB in the attic...

The question would be what is on the other side of the LAN cables?

If you have 5 individual outlets, you have 10 cable ends, what is connected to the cable ends in the technical room? A patch panel is possible, which somehow has to be mounted, or a few outlets, which might be the simpler solution for 5-6 cables.

DECT should actually be reachable everywhere, I don’t see a TAE socket anywhere where a phone might be placed, rather a LAN socket at that spot since a phone can also run through that.

I would also provide the central socket in the upper floor so an access point can still be hung there if necessary.

I would have 2 SAT cables installed in the living room, maybe you want to record a show there once and watch something else at the same time.

The patch panel and terminating the cables on the patch panel are missing. Installing it in a network cabinet would be better.
