Is IKEA IVAR suitable for a dressing room? Alternatives?

I wouldn't get away with something like that with my wife.

Maybe you just need to show her that on purpose. Then she'll be happy with real textile boxes from now on. :cool: :D

I also just thought of something regarding Ivar/banana crates: I also have two "blocks," each with three drawers. I use one block at the bottom as office storage and have one in the wardrobe. I wouldn't buy those things again. They are heavy as hell, the drawers are quite small, and the wood tends to warp so that they sometimes squeak against each other in summer. I still have the curtain in front of them and would prefer to switch back to banana crates at any time. But what do I do then with those heavy things? If you don’t want them just for the look, you can save 2/3 of the purchase price by sticking to shelves right away. Also, I’m currently happy that such a banal topic as "Ivar as a wardrobe" brings back so many memories for so many people that the thread is already 6 pages long. Some have planned and discussed their entire floor plan on 4 pages. :D

What really always bothered me about Ivar was not being able to properly wipe it down and that things sometimes stuck to the floors/drew threads/splinters came off. So as a wardrobe... hmm... maybe annoying eventually?

It's just beautiful solid wood, not veneer! If you like natural wood, it shouldn't bother you. Also, the shelves are thirsty to be treated :cool:

I have had the deep Ivar shelves for almost 20 years as a storage solution in storerooms, attic, and utility room/HAR. Certainly not cheap for that, but from my point of view optimal.

I find the price of the deep shelves extremely budget-friendly

I don't think I would have that many problems with natural wood. So far, the shelves (30 cm) we have have only oozed resin a little. We currently use them in the kitchen, previously also for the children's room. But on the shelves, we would probably store everything in divider boxes anyway. I have tons of them; I never leave Ikea without having bought a pack of SKUBB. XD I'm also not a big fan of plain shelves; they look too messy in large quantities. I think we will hang some things on hangers and use drawers for the rest.
