Why does that depend on the wall thickness?

I stick to the book by Achim Linhardt "Attractive building with a small budget". According to it, a two-story house is more efficient because of the smaller footprint. I don't find a bungalow with a hip roof particularly practical/efficient.

Hmm, if the wall is about 40 - 50 cm thick and the window is 80 - 100 cm wide, the individual window sashes hardly protrude into the room. Or am I mistaken?

And you want that? So they should be as unobtrusive as possible in the room? Should there be something else so close to the window? Generally, in front of a frequently used passage to the outside, there should be very little standing, no matter what type of window opening mechanism it is. And does it really make such a difference to you whether it's 40 or 50? You basically always have just under 40 anyway, no matter the construction type nowadays.

This is supposed to be the access to the outdoor aviary and the birds should not be able to injure themselves or use the window as a perch. But all this is going a bit far here... First, you need to have a property...

Ah! Now I get it. As far as I know, pure sliding doors are cheaper than lift-and-slide doors with a tilt function. You can inquire about it in that regard.
