We are in Germany, where every roof has a proper roof load according to the snow zone. And compared to the snow load, a photovoltaic module is relatively light. I would worry less about that with a new building

Completely no problem! We live in overregulated Germany. You can put a lot on it before it collapses. And photovoltaic systems aren’t that heavy either. We built with Heinz von Heiden (similar to Town & Country). The roof is rock solid and can be loaded without worries. If you want even more surface area, you can also consider a half-hipped roof. We have that. The house then has a bit of the character of reed-thatched coastal cottages. But that’s a matter of taste and naturally costs more.

Here in Saxony-Anhalt, only the houses in the villages stand empty that you really can’t do anything with anymore or where the renovation would no longer be feasible because of the size. The rest goes really fast, now even at prices overvalued for the local region. And these are the villages where allegedly no one wants to go. But as I said, quite a few stand empty because it would be too expensive to renovate (especially dilapidated old three-sided farmsteads).
