Is an air conditioner necessary in a south-facing location?

The crucial question is how you cope with hot days. If badly: plan air conditioning from the start and do not let direct sunlight into the house. If you want underfloor heating, take a look at systems that use refrigerants instead of water in the piping.

Photovoltaics on the roof also help to reduce temperature. And the air conditioning needs the electricity precisely when the photovoltaics generate it.

I thought, after the last four or five summers, this would no longer be a discussion...

I would definitely prepare all empty conduits and penetrations, otherwise you'll be annoyed in two years. And ideally, install a 3.5 kW unit as high and centrally as possible right away. The advantage of this is that you can dehumidify the whole house relatively quickly, and then the underfloor cooling works better. An air conditioner is such an enormous gain in comfort that the purchase costs are actually ridiculous. And the electricity costs are negligible anyway.

[Außenverschattung] is, of course, still mandatory in this situation!

Yes, I actually thought so too, especially since we have often discussed this here before.

For most people, air conditioners are desirable. People who appreciate nature and fresh air and the scent of garden, forest, and meadow better resort to other means than to hide hermetically sealed buildings in summer and winter.

It is real satire. We build energy-saving houses to have to heat less in winter. These things become increasingly airtight and highly insulated. Great, only a little energy consumption in winter! Now we realize that in summer we can no longer get the heat out of the houses. So we install air conditioners. Great energy saving. Of course, when it is hot, you can power the air conditioner with photovoltaic, which is also a good piece of climate protection.

I find it absolutely legitimate when a builder thinks about comfortable temperatures in the house and considers an air conditioner as the only option.

Additionally, you will find the current floor plans indicating which rooms may be equipped with an air conditioning system, as well as some pictures of the exterior view.

In the attic, two of the three rooms (namely the office and bedroom) have skylights that will likely be fitted with external blinds. The middle room (child's room) is located in the front gable and will have a regular blind.

On the ground floor, there are Venetian blinds at the south-west corner in the area of the floor-to-ceiling windows; normal blinds are planned for the remaining windows.

Everything is controllable via smart home (also remotely or according to time of day and light incidence).

Nevertheless, there is concern that the rooms in the attic will become too warm in summer given the current temperature trends.

The first offer for equipping the four rooms with a multi-split air conditioning system amounts to approximately €15,000 including materials and installation!

Wood fiber boards as roof insulation are currently not planned.

Are there any experiences regarding cooling via controlled residential ventilation and underfloor heating? From what I have read, it seems that the cooling functions there are very limited and that actual cooling down in the height of summer can only be achieved with an air conditioning system.

Why is the power consumption negligible?
