We also have a fireplace. It is just a luxury item; we do not need it. We also grew up with a fireplace fire, and it is a sign of coziness for us in winter... … oh, and it is an alternative heat source if there is no more gas in the line due to a zombie apocalypse.

For now, we have only installed the fireplace, and hopefully next year the stove/fireplace will be added as well. We decided on this because we love the feeling and want to relieve the underfloor heating in case of a sudden cold snap. It does react quite slowly, and at the start of winter we already had 1-3 days where we bundled up and longed for the little fire.

No fireplace We wanted one at first because we didn't know any other way. Somehow it was always in the way Costs quite a lot Overheating, dirt, When do we ever sit calmly in front of it? By the way, there are also women who can chop wood.

Phew.. am I the only one here who has no problems despite a 7kW stove? We thought.. it would only be on rarely.. BUT it is currently (down to -10 degrees) on almost every day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Heating of course is programmed accordingly and turned down (not stove on first and then heating down). We have actually burned 3 cubic meters of wood in 3 months. Ambiance and warmth are great! No problems with overheating. In the morning (around 6:30 am) it is about 20..21 degrees in the living room. With one load it then goes up to 24 and stays there until noon. Underfloor heating now also supports, but independently of the room air. Underfloor heating only maintains a temperature in the screed of at least 25 degrees and only between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm because of warm feet. That works great!

What unfortunately does not help at all... the distribution of heat in the house via [Kontrollierte-Wohnraumlüftung]. Anyone who says otherwise... is talking nonsense

Then you did not understand the principle of controlled residential ventilation. It does not extract air in the living room and blow it directly into the bathroom, but rather extracts the approx. 24-degree warm air in the living room and uses this energy to preheat the air for the bathroom. So it is distributed indirectly.

About chopping wood: yes, it's fun. I also like to do a few cubic meters sometimes. However, it also takes quite a bit of time. And together with the other disadvantages I have perceived, I also think that it is not "worth it" this way.

Probably, if I absolutely wanted to have a fire in the living room, I would choose a pellet stove.

Nope, us neither
Only "just" 5Kw, but in our Kfw 70 house turned on every weekend from autumn, sometimes during the week as well.
However, we don’t have a 20sqm living room, but an open living area. So almost the entire ground floor as well as part of the upper floor benefits from the stove heat.
