: completely off topic... it's not about economics...

I don't care at all... the fireplace including purchase is of course MUCH more expensive than the cheap boiler... my God... that's not what it's about... we even buy the wood expensively at the hardware store. Just imagine that...

According to the title of the thread, that is exactly what it's about...

I only wrote in post 29 that it makes no sense from an economic or ecological point of view. That you can of course do it as a "nice-to-have" I never wanted to deny, I was just vehemently contradicted in my statement and wanted to illustrate this in a bit more detail. Many people rationalize the fireplace by "relativizing" the acquisition costs with: "If then electricity / gas gets more expensive, I can partially compensate for this with the stove." In my opinion, this does not work in 95% of houses.

I am not a fan of fireplaces in new buildings, even in winter the air they create and the additional strain on your own lungs bother me. You always have to be careful with children when the fireplace is on. Economically, it only makes sense in exceptional cases, and you can ruin your nice roof with such a silly chimney outlet.

Those who enjoy making fire may see it differently

The simple "tin cans" generate quite a bit of airflow through thermals; they are designed that way on purpose. Unlike Grundofen, Kachelofen, or similar types. @Teog12: There is not only black and white when it comes to the chimney outlet either: Ours, for example, is clad with slate, into which a beautiful relief of a raven has been worked.
