Of course, take the vinyl without the backing board.

I'm afraid that won't work for me without considerable effort, Halmi...

The base layer is not screed, but floorboards (from the 1930s)...
So there will probably be some unevenness here and there

Floorboards from the 30s? Genuine oak? Go to the painter and have him make suggestions. I think I would sand them and then give them a white wash like that. Cool. Or classic Clou wood sealant silk matte, unfortunately super cool, you must be crazy to put laminate flooring on top. That doesn’t work, do you hear me, that is criminal behavior in construction. Whoever does that will be punished with textured wallpaper. Karsten

We currently have exactly that case in our old house. The house is about 130 years old and we have vinyl with a carrier plate and underneath an additional 2-3mm foam underlay on a boarded wooden beam ceiling.

Of course, as you have already noticed, it is not "waterproof" but probably really the easiest option.

I still wouldn't use laminate.

No idea what the floorboards underneath look like... I fear they are painted with terrible color - as was often "botched" in the past...

Indeed, I had also considered sanding them down ... BUT: Ground floor - beneath it a 40 cm cavity filled with construction debris, and below that the basement ...

I think it will then get damn cold and dusty through the gaps in the floorboards ...

But it doesn't get much warmer with the vinyl/laminate either. Some areas under our kitchen/dining room are also unheated. Unfortunately, the floor there is also cool to cold. I wouldn't expect too much from that.
