Hello dear forum community,

I am new here and so I would like to say "hello everyone" first.

In the second apartment of my life, I decided on an Ikea kitchen and I do not regret this decision. My 3.40m kitchen unit is fun and looks great!

Part of my kitchen is also the induction hob Folklig. Unfortunately, it is causing problems and I am therefore very curious whether others have these problems too:

Normally, I know from (more expensive) induction hobs that the temperature is generated evenly. This is not the case with Folklig. This hob switches on and off every few seconds. At the lowest setting, it is only on for a very short time and then off for longer; the higher I turn up, the shorter the phases when it is not "heating" become.

My internet research showed that this is normal with cheaper hobs at low settings. However, my Folklig does this up to and including setting 7 out of 9. You can clearly see the water for pasta boiling and then calming down again at these intervals.

Is this normal? How is it with others who have this hob? I am very much looking forward to your answers.

It has nothing to do with expensive or cheap, but rather with power control. With induction, there are 2 common types of power control: a) pulse modulation, the cooktop controls by "turning on and off," b) via the frequency.

Unfortunately, no manufacturer states which control they use or exactly which frequency is achieved.

There are also threads about this in the forum of Chefkoch.de.

That is clear to me. But with Folklig, the interval between on and off is so long that, for example, with pasta water at level 7 out of 9, I can clearly observe how the water constantly switches between "boiling properly" and "simmering."

The induction cooktop my parents have, which is also three times as expensive, pulses on the lowest settings as well. But only on the lowest settings and at shorter intervals than the Folklig, which causes the water there to continuously boil exactly as I set it.

Good, that might annoy me too. I have an induction cooktop from Ikea, Nutid, in use since 2008, the control was probably different back then. By the way, when I cook penne, for example, I can observe it at level 4, but not with spaghetti or linguine. It’s probably also because the penne are heavier and lie on the bottom of the pot, while the lighter ones float due to heat convection, no idea how else to say it, more like hovering.
