IKEA UTRUSTA extendable barrier device closes poorly

before buying my kitchen at Ikea, I was able to look at some older IKEA kitchens within my circle of friends.
Actually, I liked everything except for the pull-out Utrusta cabinet system. It could not be closed properly.
While searching for the cause of the problem, I came across this forum.

In the thread , I read that the problem is known and, as Bandito wrote, a new improved version was supposed to come out in May.

I then also bought the new version with the article number 902.974.50.
But this one is much worse than the ones I had seen before. You have to press even harder to close it. The pressure is so strong that if you only press on the handles, the front warps and still remains open at the bottom. A diagonal brace might have been useful.
The cabinet can only be closed if you additionally press with your foot at the bottom.

The IKEA hotline could not help with this problem and recommended that I exchange the cabinet system.
Now I would like to ask here before doing so whether I perhaps just got a bad hinge, installed something incorrectly, or if I should rather return it entirely.
What are your experiences, does anyone of you have the pull-out cabinet system (article number 902.974.50) and does it close properly?

Hello, I would return the thing, try it out in the exhibition, and only buy a new one if it works better there. There are also other providers for it, even with self-retraction.

Thank you very much for the tip. However, the narrowest was 40 cm in your link, and unfortunately, I couldn't find anything suitable for a 20 cm base cabinet using Google either. Self-closing would have been quite nice.

However, I took a closer look at the hinge. At the end, at the back on the rear wall, there is a rubber sleeve over the angle that limits the insertion. The frame strip is pushed over this and is supposed to hold it in the end position. It is probably a bit too wide.

I have now simply removed this rubber from the lower hinge, and it now closes at the bottom without pressure. I will observe this for a while; maybe the rubber will become more flexible. Otherwise, I will shave off a layer with a cutter to minimize the necessary pressure; I still have the lower hinge as a replacement if that doesn’t work.

I misunderstood; the thing would be difficult to move at least in the last 10 cm. The rubber thing is supposed to prevent the drawer from opening by itself again. Over time it will probably become a bit easier to move, but the part at the bottom is really pointless.

The linked drawer is available in 15 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm widths, depending on which shelf width you choose.

Oops, I didn't look properly. I only saw 40 cm and above among the suggested products below. But the correct shelves are offered when you put the product in the shopping cart.

Maybe I'll reconsider after all.

The pull-outs do have one disadvantage, as far as can be seen. The front must be attached very precisely. Nothing can be adjusted afterwards. In addition, it is very tight in the 20 cm cabinet for installation, and with the greatest likelihood, the holes in the corpus for attachment cannot be used.
