Hello dear forum members

I am currently planning my new Ikea kitchen. Unfortunately, I always get the following messages from the Ikea planner:

1. This cabinet is placed against a wall with a gap of less than 5 cm for the filler piece

I don't understand this at all, what is this supposed to mean? It is a base cabinet with a sink, 80 cm, with waste separation. Yes, the cabinet is at the end of the wall, but it has a pull-out door, so the wall shouldn’t matter, right?

2. It is not recommended to place a drawer cabinet with 5 drawers directly next to a cooktop

I don't understand this either, because this is not an oven with a door that needs to be opened, but next to the drawer cabinet there is no oven door, only the induction cooktop on a base cabinet with a pull-out.

Who has experience with the Ikea planner and its messages?

Many thanks for your help!

Hello Sunnylein,

Do I understand correctly that your 80 cm sink cabinet at the end of the kitchen unit is located directly in the corner?

So there is a wall at the back and a wall on one side?

I did it the same way, but in my case there are a few centimeters of space between the wall on the right side and the sink cabinet. If the sink cabinet is directly against the side wall, I could imagine that the drawer might scrape along the wall when pulled out. But I think 1 or 2 cm is more than enough tolerance.

What a filler piece is, no idea. Anna has no clue either... Maybe it means a piece of front panel that is attached between the wall and the carcass of the base cabinet. And to fasten it you surely need space, probably the claimed 5 cm. But if you only leave air there, 10 mm should be enough, if possible I would leave at least 3 cm of space, you never know... Wall not straight, measuring off by a few millimeters, bulge on the wall, etc. - bricklayers are not so precise.

I have no idea regarding your second question...

Best regards – the photo cat.

Well then, have fun planning. Please don’t worry about whether you forgot something; when you go to the furniture store to purchase, the staff will check again whether everything works, if you forgot anything, or if something could even be done better.

Hello

Among the kitchen planning tips, there is a note that pull-out cabinets should not be installed directly next to a cooktop to prevent children from using them as a ladder. The filler pieces (wall connection strips) can also be screwed directly through the side wall of the cabinet if pre-drilled accordingly.

l2, who just ordered a kitchen as well

Hello dear forum members

Oh great. Now I understand quite a bit. The thing with the drawers, you really have to think of that first! And we also have a toddler. Good to know. And the word filler piece now makes sense too. Well then, I'll continue planning. I'm already so looking forward to my kitchen!

We would like to buy the quartz stone countertop, now I read on the internet that someone wrote that you first get the kitchen delivered and then someone comes to measure? That the whole thing then drags on for weeks?
Does anyone have experience with that?

@Lucky2 I also wish you lots of fun with your new kitchen

Best regards
Sunnylein
